More French Fries = More Hair?
“Would you like fries with that?” Maybe it isn’t a bad idea to say yes sometimes. Not only are they delicious, news came out this month from a number of different sources ranging from local news outlets to national news sources such as Newsweek, all abuzz over a new study out of Japan saying that a certain chemical used in the cooking of McDonald’s fries could be the key to curing baldness.
It got many people wondering is this for real, or is it just wishful thinking? The answer is possibly a little of both.
The study involved using a chemical called “dimethylpolysiloxane” to try to grow hair on mice. A Professor working on the study reported that “it worked very well” and found new hair growth on mice where they had no hair before and he believes that it shows great promise for humans.
It turns out that this chemical is something that McDonald’s uses with their fries to stop the cooking oil from frothing. Once word of this came out, headlines about McDonald’s fries supposedly curing baldness quickly spread around the world in about as much time as it takes to eat a handful of the tasty treats.
